February #4 - Class Drama Competition And Cross Country

This week have been very interesting. Our class have put together a brilliant drama, with a bunch of perfect actors acting it out. Guess zhi hao and wee han should get an OSCAR for their mind-blowing performance. The script work was almost amazing, although the edited version was better because the initial one was just too long and had lots of fancy and bombastic words (hard for audience to understand -just giving my opinion :)

The days and days of hard work and determination putting everything into acting finally paid off when everybody, from the actors, to the props people, even the cheering audience gave their best. (I was very confident we can win this competition). God bless, on Monday, we will be the class announced as winners in the competition.

Cross-country also happened this week, and guess what, I FINALLY WON IT, I CAME UP 1ST PLACE... Not being arrogant, I'm just happy I won it after I came in second last year, behind Philipp Schmitt, a German exchange student, whom I didn't even know was in front of me until I finally saw the paper with the winners names in it... I should have at least tried to beat him if I knew he was there, but the past is the past and lets just forget it.

February #3 - MSSS Inter-District Tournament

I can say its already really late to write this as the deadline was suppose to be weeks before, but I'm fortunate to be blessed with such a sweet and caring teacher who understands me. I haven't been in school for about 2 weeks starting from the Maulidur Rasul and Thaipusam holidays because of centralized training for the MSSS Hockey tournament and I surely have missed a lot of school work and projects. However, I'm still holding on to my new year's resolution to give out my very best in studies and make sure that I finish all my homework. I'm really sorry for passing up almost all my homework late and not on time, but this will surely change in the upcoming weeks, you have my word for that as I'll try my best.

Besides, my first MSSS Hockey tournament didn't go as well as I planned for, but I will surely remember it as the stepping stone if I want to play hockey at a higher level. We played really well, although we lacked in teamwork. I guess it's because many of us are not used to playing with each other and didn't train with each other long enough to create that sparkle and 'chemistry' between each other. I was trusted with the captain arm-band to lead the team and gave out all I could. We made it to second round with 6 points as we drew two game and won a game. Unfortunately, we lost both our games in the second round and couldn't make it to the semi-finals. In a game, one will win and one will lose, so we accepted our lost although with heavy hearts. Hopefully, my brother can lead the team to glory next year and even earn a spot in the Selangor squad for the MSSM tournament.

February #2

This week is of nothing much...

I have not attended school for this entire week after the two days holidays as I have been chosen to represent the district in the Inter-District Hockey Tournament (MSSS). Training is centralized at the KL Hockey Stadium (somewhere near Universiti Malaya).

I think I won't be going to school for the entire of next week too as training is still on and the tournament is on from the 15th to 17th of February. I don't really agree with the coaches on putting the training during schooling hours as we students miss a lot in terms of studies and homework, but I guess they are happy missing school since they can skip school as well. (they are actually teachers!!)  I guess they should have been more mature in making their decision and maybe even scheduled the training to be after school hours.

I made some new friends who are now my new team mates. Lets just hope that all of us get to know each other well enough so that we can perform better as a team, because hockey generally is a team event.

February #1

I have been training with the school team for the MSSD hockey tournament that happened on Tuesday. We been training since the end-term holidays and played few friendlies with schools even as far as Singapore.

Monday morning, as the hockey team captain and clubs president, I followed the girls team to cheer and give them support for their matches that day. Many of them were first timers and were quite nervous but I managed to give them confidence to give their best for their games. They played well and drew their first match and lost their second. However, they were suppose to play another match the next day and if they win or even drew, they would be in the semi-finals.

On Tuesday morning, the whole boys team were fired up to qualify to the finals on Friday. We drew our first match, won the next two and carried on to play in the semi-finals. We played SMK Datuk Harun and dominated the game. At half time, we were leading 1-0. Unfortunately, in the second half, they managed to capitalize on us through two penalty corners in the last seconds and won us 2-1. We were devastated as we knew we could have won the game and carry on to become overall champions but lost because of our silly mistakes. On the overall, we played perfectly, although the ball could not find the back of the net in many occasions.

Mr.Siva certainly took it more personally and did not allow us to play the 3rd and 4th placing game and asked us to pack up. Although there were some pleading from players and also confrontation from the technical table, he did not back up from his decision and took us back to school. To think about it now, he was right to be angry as he tried his best to bring us back as champions.

As for the girls team, they won and proceeded to the finals but lost in that game. Still, I am happy for them as they were underestimated and were the 'underdogs' in the tournament yet they proved everyone wrong.

January #1- First Week of school

Finally, whether I like it or not, school has started. After more than a month of holidays, I am reluctantly coming back to school. To make things worse, everyone's already started talking about SPM. I know it's coming and time is going to fly fast, so I have decided that I'm going to work extra hard to achieve excellent results. I even got my daily timetable prepared so that I can divide my time perfectly between sports and studies.

With the MSSD Hockey tournament coming really early this year, around early February, me and my brother Mandeep, had started training with aims not only to lead the school team to become champions of the district but also to be called up to play for the Petaling Utama squad in the MSSS Tournament held at the Bukit Jalil National Hockey Stadium from 15th to 17th February. We started to play a lot of more tournaments with our own club -not with the school's club- and friendlies with senior teams to gain experience and improve our game.

We consider this to be a stepping stone for us in furthering our passion to enjoy and play this sport, and if all goes as planned, Mandeep and I will be going for selections to play for a team in the Malaysian Hockey Junior League next year.

We have the same dream, that is to play for Malaysia some day, and I believe this can come true if we train and practice hard enough. However, we are not of those people who sacrifice their studies to play sports as we believe that without studies, one cannot go far in life. We work hard to be all-rounded students and that means we have reallly little time to sit back and watch television or even surf the internet. I sincerely believe in the adage 'All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy' and can't argue to how true it is.

NIGHT WITHOUT END

BY- JASPREET SINGH

I arrived at the coast of Baffin Bay in the polar ice-cap of the Arctic Circle with a troop of Marines deployed by the government to aid in a rescue operation. We were informed earlier about a plane belonging to The British Airways had crashed right in the middle of the Polar ice caps. However, we were not informed on how many passengers were aboard and if all of them were safe. We just knew that the group of passengers which survived that horrible airplane crash was left to fend for themselves in cold blizzard weather conditions with the help of a few scientist stationed there in a research centre.

I followed the group of marines with another reporter from a safe distance, afraid that I might get hurt in the fight. Up front, a man,  was driving a tractor at top speed across the steeply sloping crevasse ice. We were told that he is armed, highly dangerous and also is keeping a man and a lady as hostages. There were a few men chasing the tractor, with one of them shooting the tractor with his rifle, yet the vehicle was still moving at dangerous speed.

Suddenly, the tractor stopped. There was a commotion in the tractor and I could see that the driver and another man, whom I suppose was a hostage as he had his hands tied behind his back, were fighting fiercely. They then fell out of the vehicle, still fighting with great power when suddenly the criminal took out his gun and shot the hostage. I could see that the men initially chasing the tractor arrived at the scene and one of them started chasing and attacking the criminal, and finally killing him. Unfortunately, there was another criminal, still holding the lady as hostage. He shot the lady just below her left elbow, prompting the other men to release their weapons.

As this was happening, the Marines were closing up on the criminal. Unfortunately, the man with the lady hostage realised about the presence of the Marines and quickly pushed the women and jumped into the tractor. About then, he shot a man in his arm as this man tried to stop him from running away. The tractor was moving fast across the glacier, but was completely out of control as the glacier was so steep and slippery. It went straight into a big rock and the criminal, who was holding something that looks like a radio, and the women fell out of the driving cabin. Then, they slipped and fell into a crevasse.

Further away, two planes were flying low across the glacier, with red-fire shooting from their guns onto men carrying weapons from a nearby fishing boat. The man who was shot at his arm just now, along with few men, went running to the crevasse. He threw a rope down, and out of a sudden just jumped into the crevasse. He certainly looked like he knew was he was doing.

Moments later, the men at the top of the crevasse pulled the women out of the crevasse. At this point, I could feel the ice beneath me moved slightly. Hoping the ice do not close on them, I prayed the man, whom by now I know of his name, Dr.Mason, gets out of the crevasse in time. Fortunately, he managed to come out in time, bringing with him the radio that was with the criminal. I could hear the criminal in the crevasse pleading for help, but the men ignored him and within moments, the ice moved again. The mouth of the crevasse closed, swallowing the murderer to his end. The whole controversy's root remains a mystery to all of us. What was the purpose of Dr Mason risking his life to get just a radio?
