I have been training with the school team for the MSSD hockey tournament that happened on Tuesday. We been training since the end-term holidays and played few friendlies with schools even as far as Singapore.
Monday morning, as the hockey team captain and clubs president, I followed the girls team to cheer and give them support for their matches that day. Many of them were first timers and were quite nervous but I managed to give them confidence to give their best for their games. They played well and drew their first match and lost their second. However, they were suppose to play another match the next day and if they win or even drew, they would be in the semi-finals.
On Tuesday morning, the whole boys team were fired up to qualify to the finals on Friday. We drew our first match, won the next two and carried on to play in the semi-finals. We played SMK Datuk Harun and dominated the game. At half time, we were leading 1-0. Unfortunately, in the second half, they managed to capitalize on us through two penalty corners in the last seconds and won us 2-1. We were devastated as we knew we could have won the game and carry on to become overall champions but lost because of our silly mistakes. On the overall, we played perfectly, although the ball could not find the back of the net in many occasions.
Mr.Siva certainly took it more personally and did not allow us to play the 3rd and 4th placing game and asked us to pack up. Although there were some pleading from players and also confrontation from the technical table, he did not back up from his decision and took us back to school. To think about it now, he was right to be angry as he tried his best to bring us back as champions.
As for the girls team, they won and proceeded to the finals but lost in that game. Still, I am happy for them as they were underestimated and were the 'underdogs' in the tournament yet they proved everyone wrong.
